Download the plugin
Grab the zip file from the download page. Keep it zipped.

Upload to WordPress
In your WordPress dashboard go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now, then Activate.

Paste your licence key
Click AI Alt Text in the WordPress sidebar and paste the licence key from your purchase email. Managed plan: that's all. Leave the OpenAI box empty (the plugin won't let you fill both, so you're never billed twice).

Own Key plan only: choose your AI provider
The provider settings appear once your Own Key licence is saved and checked. Pick OpenAI (key from platform.openai.com, add a small credit under Billing, e.g. $5), Google Gemini (key from aistudio.google.com, which has a free tier), or Custom for OpenRouter, DeepSeek or a local model. Choose a model from the list, paste your key and click Save Changes. You'll see a green tick if it works.

Choose what gets updated
Tick which fields the AI should fill: alt text, title, caption, description and tooltip. Choose whether to overwrite text you've already written.

Clear your back catalogue in one click
Open the Bulk Scan tab. The backlog audit shows how many old images are missing alt text. Click Scan unprocessed images now and keep the page open. Big library? Grab a one-off clean-up pack so your monthly allowance stays free.

"API error 401": the key is wrong or was deleted. Create a new one and paste it again.
"API error 429: no credits": add credit in your OpenAI billing page, then rescan.
Nothing happens on a quiet site: use the Start scan button; it works without waiting for visitors.
